Endless dress-up days

Seriously, am sick of it.

We don't have much in the way of dressing-up clothes at home because the DDs just aren't into it, and I cannot afford the £10 to buy a costume every time it's dress-up day. Wear red for Comic Relief - give £1. Wear a pirate outfit for no apparent reason. Wear blue for another pirate/under the sea day for no apparent reason. Dress up for World Book Day. Dress as a Roald Dahl character - give £1. Wear colourful clothes for Africa day.

The only pirate outfit I could source (I borrowed from a friend) was for a boy and while DD1 loved it and isn't at all girly, she got laughed at for wearing a boys' outfit.

Thank God it's the end of term next week.

I know I am probably coming across as a misery.

I am obviously thick but is there a difference between a boy pirate outfit and a girl?

if mine had to go in as pirates they would literally have a paper homemade hat, a rolled up paper telescope and a home made paper eye patch. with perhaps a striped top.

I think it would be a good idea to make a comment to the head or the PTA or whoever organises these things. I'm sure that other parents feel like you.

In our school, we have has one dress up day over the whole year as well as some own clothes days or 'wear spotty clothes' type themes. But the head has said that she limits fancy dress days purely because of the expense to parents. I think you should suggest that your school takes the same approach.

Apparently there is... I am going to write a letter; lots of parents are annoyed.

We've had 4 so far this term alone - and another next Friday.

Fortunately I only have the one child, but it must be a nightmare for many parents.

Considering that nearly 45% of the pupils are FSM, it does seem unnecessarily excessive.
