School transfer

Ds3 (6) yr 2 may have an opportunity to transfer to a prep school in yr 3. His sats results were level 2 with 2c for reading, writing and maths. Would a prep school support him more with smaller class sizes? He has to be assessed before a place is offered but are these results good enough to pass?

Most Prep schools do "assess", but in many cases at that age (there are exceptions!), as long as a child does not have obvious problems, its more a chance for the school to see the level they are at, and how they will fit in with the class. So don't be worried about how your DS will perform - if he goes in and is his natural self, fits in with the other kids in the class, I'm sure he will be fine. Remember, unlike a state school, you are the customer paying for a service, and the school needs to fill its spaces despite what you might be led to believe. Yes, he will get more support from a prep school with smaller classes than he would at a state primary, but then obviously you are paying handsomely for that! My daughter went to both state primary and Prep school ...
