DD age 6 had "worst day ever"

DD came home from school yesterday upset saying she'd had the worst day ever at school. Usually she comes home very happy and never complains.

Various things happened at school (silly stuff) but main issue was that she told teacher in music lesson that she couldnt see the white board. Teacher told her there wasnt anything she could do about it. DD said she was half sitting on the chair, half standing to try and see the board. Would have taken a lot for DD to have told the teacher as she is very shy and introverted.

DD was annoyed that the girl who sat next to her was found a space where she could see the board ( girl's mum is teaching assistant in same year).

Is it worth me mentioning to the teacher as there are only three weeks left before end of term? Nothing can be achieved from it anyway but don't think the teacher couldn't have found her a spot where she could have seen the board.

No reason not to believe DD as I know other people whose children have had same teacher previously and have heard their opinions of her.

That is so poor and crap of the teacher to dismiss her like that I would definitely complain, it is her job to teach and make sure the children can see that is so lame to basically say tough, not doing her job properly your daughter had the confidence to speak up though so good for her

Maybe the teacher was busy dealing with something else more serious at the time? Unless you were in the room at the time you can't really say what was happening or why the teacher said that. There's not much information in the post you've provided.

I think it is important that she is able to see the board and if she is a shy girl, she might not feel comfortable bringing this up again, so yes, I think I would discuss this with the teacher.

You can have a quick chat with the teacher if you like, personally I wouldn't bother but no harm in mentioning it if it will make you feel better. I wouldn't worry too much about 'worst day ever', they do tend to over dramatise at this age! If she is basically happy at school and doing well then this sounds like a minor incident to me.

Thanks, I will mention it.

Heggiehog - The music teacher comes in to teach them the instrument they are learning, she is not a permanant member of staff. The form teacher stays in the class though for the lesson. This is who my DD spoke to about not seeing the board. She couldnt see the notes on the board so was unable to play her instrument.

Retired male TA here :

If it is a computerized or projector whiteboard (as against ordinary dry-wipe pens) teachers often don't black out a room well enough, and whiteboards can be very difficult to see. Because the teacher knows what is being displayed some almost overlook the difficulty children might have seeing it clearly.
