If you went to a meeting for parents with DC moving into Y1 next term, what would you want to know?

At that age, mainly just arrangements for drop offs & pick ups, and what they do in terms of settling in.

But also (thinking about it more), whether there are any sessions for parents to explain phonics / tips for helping with reading.

Is it for the parents or for the parents but about the children?

What the structure of the day is like compared to reception. At our school reception class is mainly play based and it changes hugely going into year 1.

Nothing much. Maybe just what the day was like structure wise.

Do the classes mix up/will they still be with their friends, when will they know who their teacher will be, when will they meet their new teacher & see their new classroom, what differences are there in school day/environment, what can parents do to support the transition.

We had a meeting that covered this, it was surprisingly useful!

I'd like to know what the teacher expected in terms of homework - when their reading books would be changed and that kind of thing. And how the teacher thinks that you as a parent can best support your DC's learning.

Lots of parents seem to think it will be miles more structured, but ime it is only slightly more structured. So just clarifying that, probably. Little else changes ime.
