Iron-in name tapes

Having totally failed to sew in DS1s name tapes after the first term of Reception I am not deluding myself that I will be any better with DS2 although I feel unable to send him off on his first day with his name scrawled in biro. Can anyone recommend any particular iron in name tape companies or do they all peel off?

if you already have the sew in tapes then you can buy little plastic clip things that kind of staple them on to labels. will see if I can find a link. I haven't got any myself but they look quite good and are supposed to be pretty flat so can't irritate.

Periwinkle007 · 28/06/2013 15:59

these things - I think most companies that sell nametapes now do these as well so shop around www.nametag-it.co.uk/details/box-of-easyfix-clips

I use stick on ones! They are great. Keep some handy and as I get new clothes etc, just stick a label on ......

TheHouseofMirth · 28/06/2013 17:40

iwantavuvezela do you really mean stick on ones for clothes?

Get a proper laundry pen instead. Iron in labels are shit!

Moominsarehippos · 28/06/2013 17:47

I got some from Mabels Labels. The stickers and metal ID tags are great... the iron one ones do drop off quickly though.

I now sew tags or write with a sharpie.

Moominsarehippos · 28/06/2013 17:48

The sad thing is that I bought a jumper for me and thought on the way home 'I'll just sew a name tag on that when I get home'.

TheHouseofMirth · 28/06/2013 17:59

I've just found this. I wonder if it's any good?

Any labels are cheaper and better than losing expensive branded school uniform!

I sew mine but other parents have recommended those clip things - bear in mind can you remove the labels if you want to give the item to someone else or to charity?

Nerfmother · 28/06/2013 18:11

I use stickies and they are amazon . Will look for a link.

Try these

Periwinkle007 · 28/06/2013 18:18

yes those clip things are supposedly easy to remove. I was going to get some but then my lovely mum volunteered to help with sewing on nametapes so I didn't bother in the end.

I have used iron ons for years and only ever lost one. They've done daycare, pre-school and now reception. Sew ins my arse!

wonkylegs · 28/06/2013 18:31

I used these ones tinyme they aren't the cheapest but they do last and they are attractive enough that when the school requests labels on the outside of things they are nice too.
The shoe things work too.
Be aware there are one or two things that don't go with the high temps needed to iron labels on (shell of coat melts) on these I ironed on to a piece of cotton & sewed that on as I hadn't bought any sew on ones - it looks fine.
I've also got the sticky labels for lunchboxes etc they wash in the dishwasher ok too.

mrspaddy · 28/06/2013 18:41

Oh the tinyme ones are probably the cutest thing I have seen in a long time!!! I have to get a present for friend who probably has everything for new baby but might get these..

TheHouseofMirth · 28/06/2013 20:19

Oh those tinyme ones are very dinky. Are they particularly stiff and scratchy?

Easy2name woven iron on labels really do stay put. Love them - you'll also find a mumsnet discount code if you look in the right section on here.
Also love their dishwasher proof name stickers too.

wonkylegs · 28/06/2013 22:26

The tiny me ones are lovely, my fussy label hating DS has yet to even notice these on his shirts so I guess that they aren't scratchy at all.
They are soft once they are ironed on... He's got vehicles(his choice) but I'm so tempted to order some different ones just for me. I'm not sure I can justify panelling my clothes but I might get them for the sewing I do.
