Non teflon coated school trousers?

DS starts Reception in September, and I'm struggling to find navy school trousers that aren't coated in teflon. I know this obviously appeals to lots of people, but he hasn't worn teflon coated clothes to date, and we've coped fine (no major staining, just bung things in the wash!). Does anyone know where I might be able to find normal, non-teflon coated trousers that aren't ludicrously expensive?

I've tried M&S / John Lewis etc, but no joy (I think M&S do one pair of non-teflon trousers, but not in navy).

Have you tried the supermarkets? On the tesco website some trousers mention teflon and some dont' so I assume that not all of them are coated.

Just an observation I have found DD's capacity to cover herself in muck to be 10 times greater at school than ever at nursery even now in year 4 particular on days when lunch involves ketchup.

I think virtually all school uniform is now teflon coated, certainly 90% of the pinafores and skirts seem to be. The only ones I find that aren't are a few jersey ones but there aren't many around (Asda and M&S are the only ones doing them now I think)

Thanks for the replies.

Just checked Tesco and Asda online - all their navy trousers are teflon coated (navy seems to be the main limiting factor!). Can't believe that there doesn't seem to be a single non teflon option out there Confused .

Search for Navy Chino's and you will find plenty M&S usually has them.

There's an eczema clothing website, often linked to on MN. Pretty sure you can get them there.

I have the same bug bear.

I am probably being really ignorant here....but what is the problem with Teflon?

westwardho · 29/06/2013 09:22

Frikadellen / Shattereddreems - thanks for the tips. Will try them now!

melody - I just don't like the idea of my kids wearing unecessary chemicals next to their skin, all day, everyday. We've got a family history of allergies / sensitive skin, so it just instinctively feels like the wrong thing to do. I'd just like a half-way natural alternative.

Just tried the M&S website for children's navy chinos - all with teflon added.

The m & s skinkind ones in black are apparently more a navy colour according to the reviews. They might be worth a go. My ds has the grey ones but I had awful problems trying to get hold of them last year. None of the stores near me stocked them and they were out of stock online for months. I ordered the next size up too when they were eventually available.

Frikadellen · 29/06/2013 20:47

British Home stores I dont see any mention of Teflon

Frikadellen · 29/06/2013 20:52

Also try Next for chinos some appear to be without Tefflon but unsure the cotton % would be enough

Hope you manage to find some

Thanks for all the tips! BHS and the M&S black/blue ones look like a possibility. I think Cotton Comforts is probably a bit pricey for us.

Mel - thanks for the guardian link. Looks like I'm not the only one in search of some basic cotton school trousers! If only the main retailers would catch on...
