changing schools when going into reception

Has anyone done this? My ds has got a place in reception at the school he is at now but I'm really not happy with it, various reasons including a high turnover of staff, ofsted report going from good to satisfactory and an accident involving a boy in my ds' class which I don't think was dealt with correctly.
My ds has got friends at the school and does enjoy it there, however when he does go into reception he is being split up from his best friends as there will be 3 classes in reception, there are that many children.
Would I be wrong in trying to get him into another school (not that there is much chance) when he does enjoy it there?

I'm doing the same.

I take the view that as DD's parent I make the decision on what is best for her education and the pluses of the new school far outweigh any friendships that she currently has.

She is a sociable child and shouldn't have any problems making new friends given that there are another 89 children starting in Reception with her.

I am fortunate in that she attends a private nursery after school and 5 of the children there are going to the same primary that she is going to. As soon as I explained that X would be there she didn't seem bothered anymore that she wouldn't see Y from the other school anymore.

Thanks, I'm arranging a meeting with the head of the school he is currently at with a few of the other parents that have concerns.
I just don't know what to do for the best

If you have real concerns, and can find another place you are happy with, then I would move him. Many (most?) children don't attend nursery/pre-school in the same setting, and they manage absolutely fine.
