Is she already 4 or 4 in September ? If she is already 4 and you are moving locally they only have to take her if they have a space, otherwise the Local Authority can offer you a space at another school with a vacancy. If she is 4 in September you'd apply with everyone else in the Autumn and the admissions policy would be used to allocate places, one of which may be distance but that could be priority after siblings are catered for.

thanks ui for answering me, my daugher is 4 in this August, u mean, we cannot apply the school that we want if it s no a space left although we live in priority?

So your daughter would be starting school in September but if the school near your new house is already full in reception, then it is correct that they will not offer her a place in the class. The LA does have a responsibility to find you a school place so they will offer you a space at the nearest school which does have spaces. Depending on how oversubscribed local schools are, this might not be particularly close to your house.

Do you know if the school you want is full for September? It would be worth calling and asking them. You should also check the admissions policy for that school as some schools (e.g. Faith) will prioritise church attendance and religion over proximity to school. You could also speak to the LA and find out which schools in the area currently have spaces which would give you an idea of where your dd might attend. However, even if there is space in the school now, you cannot be allocated a place until you live in the area so it could be that someone else will come along before you move house and be given that space.

thanks all very much for your advice

I wonder if you could tell; if we let her continue with nursery for another year then apply for Sep 14 when she will be 5; will she be considered for a place as if she was 4 and therefore if admitted will be attending class together with other 4 years old children or she will be considered and admitted to 5 years old class if there is a space.

many thanks

If you apply for a space in September 2014 she will be going into the Year 1 class and will only get a space if one exists in the class or if she is at the top of the waiting list and someone leaves after reception.

LIZS · 24/06/2013 16:10

Yes she would miss out Reception if you left it until Sept 2014 and may still not get a place at that particular school if it is already full and no one leaves. Nurseries/preschools may or may not be willing to accept her and presumably you have no place lined up near new house yet. In meantime ring up and ask the local Authority/Council whether the school is full and what the application procedure is. If it is full you will need to go on the waiting list as soon as you move and will probably be near the top of the list. How soon are you moving ?

mekim · 24/06/2013 17:40

Yes, i will ask the Authority/ Council.
It' s belong to my hus' job in August, according to your advices,i think ,the only way, I will stay until next year and let her continue going to her offered school now, and my husband is moving first .we need the school near my house so i cannot drive and more comfortable for looking after my son. We will move to Kingston upon thames. Do you live near or know about it, Would you recommend me a good school? many thanks

It might be worth you posting in the Local section for suggestions but I fear from past threads on here that full schools are an issue in that borough. Infant class sizes are limited so it could be year 3 before an opportunity comes up at a school of your choice unless someone leaves or can pay to go private for a while. Unfortunately being unable to drive and having other small children would not carry any official weight in your search. Where are you living currently ?

mekim · 24/06/2013 19:54

Im living in Byfleet, and you?

If you currently have a school place in Byfleet can you not all remain there and your husband drive or get the train to Kingston? Lots of people do a commute of that length or longer. There is a severe shortage of school places in the Woking area and several schools are having extra classes added. I don't know what the situation is like in Kingston but can't imagine there are lots of spare places floating around. Are you prepared to say which school in Kingston you are looking at?

LIZS · 24/06/2013 20:25

Sorry, not local to you . Yes, agree that commute sounds very feasible.

thanks for your advice.
