Hi there,

I am looking for advise/tips in term of how to find a tutor for my 6 year old daughter.

I am looking for a primary school teacher who can help my daughter during the summer break. She is in Year 1 but has been falling behind. She needs to go back to basics with writing, reading and math.

I tried Gumtree and various agencies but I am struggling to find anybody who has qualilfications working with young children.

Any tips/advise would be very welcome.

For info, we live in West London.

Thanks.

Try to make it fun, not homework.

Learning maths doesn't have to be done sat at a table - counting and sums can be done anywhere. In shops - counting things, dealing with money, at home weighing and measuring for cooking etc.

I think if you present it as homework she will continue to be resistant, you need to hide it in everyday fun activities.

I'm not sure you need a tutor from what you have said so far. Things like reading door numbers when going for a walk or adding the number of swings to the number of slides in the park.

Pm me I'd be happy to give you ideas on what you can do and where to start.

I am sure that OP has being doing these things since her daughter could walk. Some children need more explicit instruction than just learning through play.

Provided that the OP can find the right person then I think her idea of having a tutor is good.

Blandine, where are you in West London? I know a couple of teachers who may be interested. Pm me if you like.
