Yr 4 assessment question

My DD had her maths assessment on Monday and told me that she had a TA to help her read the questions

I found this a bit strange as although she isnt a maths genius she doesn't struggle with it and also has no problem with reading.
So my question really is that is this normal procedure or should I be asking for a word with the teacher?

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It would normally only happen if a child struggled with reading but not maths

I don't suppose there's any way of finding out how many children got "helped" is there?

Galena · 11/06/2013 18:49

We used to tell our children that if they needed help to read the questions they could put their hand up. Then either myself or a ta would go and read. However there were children who I would ask a ta to read every question to, as though they could read the words, they often misunderstood them unless they heard them read.

mrz her reading is fine as she's been a free reader since the beginning of yr3

learnandsay having just asked her she said that out of the 6 tables in her class most of the bottom 2 had 'help' but she is on table 3

galena I did ask if maybe she was unsure of anything and had put her hand up but she said no,

Has the TA confused her with another child?

ime of reading questions to y3 children, those who ask, about half of them can read fine but are hoping that you will give a clue to how to solve the answer in how you say the question. And it's hard not to give a clue.

Plus a few who need glasses but haven't been diagnosed yet.

Think I might try and catch the teacher tomorrow just to ask.
lljkk she has been wearing glasses since year 2 but reckon she might have been trying to get an answer out of her Smile
