Home school in London

Hello all, we may be moving from LA to Barnes, London. However there is no set date yet. We have 3 DCS aged 6, 4 almost 5 and 2. We could well move after the school year has started. I am wondering about hiring a teacher to home school whilst waiting for primary school places if we were moved at an inconvenient time. Does anyone out there have any experience with this?
I am only interested in it as a stop gap measure and wonder where I could go to find a teacher, how much it would cost, background checks etc.
any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Why would you hire a teacher? I'd just do it yourself with the aid of any local HE groups.

Occasionally parents may hire a subject specialist tutor in an area where they feel particular knowledge would be helpful - a foreign language, say. But by and large, home educating parents do the education themselves. It is easier than you think.

If you need childcare then you may well want to use a childminder or nanny to look after the children while you work. You could ask this person to do some academics with the children - many will be used to supervising homework already - or you could do the education yourself during the time you are not working. It can fit around your schedule and it does not have to take a lot of time, as your children will be getting one-to-one attention.

Come over to the home ed board here at Mumsnet or join another British home education forum if you want to chat with more HE parents.
