Does your child's teacher give hugs to the children?

Dd1's does, quite frequently, and I think it's lovely that she's so warm and affectionate with the pupils (reception).

But I'm just thinking how I would never have dreamed of hugs with my teacher at primary school... this was in Germany, but still.

Yes, all the time. The children also sit in her lap from time to time. It's lovely, IMO. But like you, can't imagine receiving a sign of affection from any of my teachers.

Yes, and they often sit on her lap at carpet time, etc. (reception).

She really gets to know each child, and manages brilliant classroom behaviour and involvement, and she and the TAs hug children who are upset for any reason.

The head stands at the gate at hometime every day, saying goodbye to the pupils (and making sure that they all go home attached to their adult I suppose). I think it is lovely when I see lots of enthusiastic infants giving her a huge goodbye hug at the end of the day - DS doesn't do it, but was sitting curled up on his teacher's knee when we had to collect him from school after he had fallen in the playground and taken off the skin from half his face. I was happy to see that they could sit on knees, thought this wasn't encouraged due to daft Child Protection issues - littlies need hugs when they are upset. Smile

Dd1's teacher last year (reception) was lovely and always gave big hugs to the children, and dd1 really liked it, however, her teacher this year is not like this at all, and when dd first started Yr 1 she seemed very upset which wasn't like her at all, so I had a chat with the teacher and she said 'Oh a lot of the children seem upset at the moment, I know their last teacher was very touchy feely, but I am not like that and have told them to keep their hands to themselves'!!! Shock Angry Sad
