Is there a good reason why DS has dropped 3 book band levels?

DS in reception has been progressing really well with his reading. He has gone up through the levels and is now comfortable reading Orange band books. The last 3 weeks he has been sent home with Yellow level books which are very easy and very boring. Before I ask the teacher I wanted to check if there is a good reason to do this. Does it boost their confidence to read easy books? Will the teacher think I'm a PITA if I question this?

We're on the next level to orange at the moment and the books we're getting are still pretty simple. Since there isn't significantly more text and the stories aren't significantly more complicated than the yellow ones I can't see how they'd help higher order reading skills more. But the one way in which they'd help less is that the dialogue has improved in the magic key books. And that helps expression. So, if there's a sensible and meaningful argument to be put forward in favour of lower banded books, save but for the fact that the child can't read higher ones, I've yet to hear it.

I thought you said that your daughter was on blue band L&S? Confused

She went up at the beginning of the week.

I think the teacher was trying to do expression and failing with several blue books. But it worked with the first green one she tried.
