Son off school watching sports day

It is my children's sports day tomorrow and my son has tonsillitis he is much better today than yesterday but still don't think he will be well enough to take part in sports day. However my daughter is also in the sports day and I really want to see her and if I don't go she will have no one to watch her. Would you think the school would allow me to take my son to watch his sister and his own class as they are all in it together or is this wrong and I just stay home with him. Sports day is not at the school just a local rec ground and is very low key x

I'd take him.

Are you sure he's not well enough to take part? How does he feel about it?

He is just so lethargic and still had a temp first thing this morning although he has perked up a lot since first thing, not like the weekend though where he was literally watching tv and sleeping. He says he doesn't want to do lots of races as he is too tired. If it was a normal school day tomorrow I think he would be fine but I think sports day would just wipe him out!

As a teacher I would think it was odd and I think the children will be looking at him thinking 'I wish I could spend the day with my Mum doing what I want'

I realise this is not what you are doing and I see you're in a bit of a bind - there is a difference between well enough to be at school and well enough to sit quietly watching races. But I think it will look strange.

If you dont care what others think then go ahead!

In, sit down, watch sports day, go home. No messing about, no playing with his mates ( or other peoples small siblings), no having ice creams/ sweets/ fizzy pop in front of his mates.

He kinda needs to "look ill" to make it work.

Personally, I'd send him to school but let his teacher know I was around and would be at sports day if it all got too much for him so he could go and sit with you.

I spoke to his teacher after school as was there picking up my older child she said she doesn't have a problem with it as we will only be watching my dd's races and we will not actively be hanging around watching his class. But since getting the antibiotics into him he has perked up so much since this morning I am thinking will send him in and see how he gets on. I can always bring him home afterwards!! Thanks for all your advice x
