it's an article about the rubbish drift in the pacific ocean and it's impact on wildlife

it wants to know why the logos on the page are placed where they are to make them noticeable we don't think they are and there are a couple of other questions she's struggling with

it's not a past sats paper so no scoring guide so dd is confused by how much to write

she's not struggled with this sort of homework before, it's almost like it's stepped up a level

do I just send it back on monday and say she's done her best?

Short answer: yes. Homework should not be a huge hassle and the teacher needs to know that she couldn't do it.

yes, send back and say she has done her best. after all, in the real thing she will not have any help. Better for the teacher to know what she doesn't understand to have time to work on it.

You should comment on use of colour in the article and how it affects the reader.

Also comment on comment on font sizes.

You also need to comment on a gauge used - ie alliteration, rhyme, strong evocative words etc.

It's probably the equivalent of a 3 mark question, so try to think of 3 points and develop them as much as she can.

As long as she has done her best then that should be enough. If she can't do a particular question or type of question then that will flag up a gap in her understanding to the teacher. If you work out answer for her then it won't. If you are worried just put a note with homework saying dd tries v hard but couldn't work out how to do question x.

Are you sure it's asking about the positioning of the logos and not why they've been used at all?

If it's positioning, it might be positioning in the centre, positioning next to the connected text, positioning surrounded by the connected text.

If, on the other hand, it's asking why the logos have been used, then you need to comment on the fact that they give the article a more official nature, that they give evidence that people take this issue seriously, and that they give the reader a resourse to find out more about the issue.

Why are people trying to help the op do her daughters homework? It is meant to be done by the op daughter not her mum and a load of strangers on mumsnet!

she's taking it in on monday with a note to say she has tried but talking to lots of the other mums, they have all struggled with it

I also like to help but think you need to consider what the purpose of homework is. Surely it allows your child to practise what they have been learning and allow the teacher to see what they are still struggling with. Sorry if you think my comments are unhelpful.
