Hi anyone have any idea which are the best/good primary/infant/nursery schools in Newport please?

Would like to know more about those which then have a good link with good high schools.

Heard ones in bassaleg, Caerleon are good.

DS will be starting next year.

Thanks

I think the best secondaries are Bassaleg and Caerleon. So their feeder primaries are probably in most demand. (But that doesn't necessarily mean they're good.)

I have 2 girls at Rogerstone Primary, which had an outstanding estyn report. But then the head left and since the new one took the job it hasn't been so good, in my opinion.

Did you have much luck with finding a nursery place? I've been up a few times to have a look around some of them. Got a job starting in Newport soon. Out of all the ones i saw I think we're going to choose Sunny Bank Day Nursery
It's not far from Basselag either. It was the best by far in my opinion and all the staff were lovely. Their website gives you a good idea too. www.sunnybanknursey.co.uk
Good Luck!

The two best (state) secondary schools in Newport are undoubtedly Bassaleg and Caerleon. Maybe I'm biased, I went to Caerleon and my cousins were at Bassaleg, but both schools have a solid record of sending lots of kids to good universities. Of the two primaries in Caerleon, the Endowed down in the village has a better rep than Lodge Hill, but my friends with two kids at Endowed says that's more to do with the intake than any great management on part of the school. I'm not sure you'd get a place at Endowed if you live out of catchment - and property in Caerleon is more expensive for a reason.

I had a relative who taught at Malpas Church in Wales and it seemed a good place, but any school in Malpas will suffer from being in the catchment area for Bettws Newport High.

Several schools had a shite reputation back in the day, but that might have changed by now. Bettws has now changed names to Newport High, but I still wouldn't send my kids there. Hartridge seems to have changed its name to Llanwern High, in the hope that nobody will notice its previous crapness.

Both Duffryn and St Julians are OK but not great. St. Josephs used to be where anyone vaguely religious sent their kids, whether Catholic or not, don't know if that's still true.

The only real private option is the laughably named Rougemont, now based in Malpas, but TBH Bassaleg or Caerleon would provide a bright child with a better education.

Am also interested, is Rougemont really not good then?
