Executive Headteacher

Hello,
Just wondered if anybody knows what it means when a school appoints an Executive Headteacher when the current Headteacher is away ill? Do they take over until the existing head returns or does it mean that the existing head probably won't be returning?

Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks.

In my experience this means they are the Head of more than 1 school. Other managers will do the day to day running but the executive does all the stuff that, officially, a Head has to do.

It doesn't necessarily mean the Head is not returning.

DD's school has an Executive headteacher, plus a "Head of School" who was previously the deputy. The headteacher covers 2 local primaries, and splits her week between them 50/50. The Head of School does the day to day stuff.
