Year1 mark 2C means what exactly?

Hi, all! Today I had a kind of report tipe teacher meeting about my DD. The teacher said only good things about her, and she also said that she is 2C in all subjects. As I'm not from UK, a fail to understand the marking. What does that really mean? As there were many more parents waiting, I didn't have a chance to ask the teacher for an explanation. My DD is in year 1.
Thank you for any input :)

This sounds like a National Curriculum level. After 2C comes 2B, then 2A, then 3C and so on. The usual aim is to improve or progress by two of these sub levels each academic year. Most children reach level 2 by the May of Y2, with some only reaching level 1 and others reaching level 3.

2C at this point in Yr1 means your DD is above average and doing very well, so you should be proud. Expected level is 2B at the end of YR2.

Hi Tigraj

Mumsnet has some pages on the Learning area about assessment and progress through NC Levels here: www.mumsnet.com/learning/assessment/national-curriculum-levels and link to expected progress through levels here: www.mumsnet.com/learning/assessment/progress-through-national-curriculum-levels

I am wondering if you can help me - we live in Australia. DD is in Grade 1 and is reading books marked 3B (gold/level 22).

DD (5) can read these books without any trouble at all, but sometimes has trouble with comprehension. Is it possible that she's getting books which should be for a Y3 student?

MrRected · 15/03/2013 02:03

I googled the book and it's 2B (not sure what the 3B reference on the front is all about). DD is 8 weeks into Grade one so I am pretty happy with that.

Children can often read books above their comprehension level but wouldn't be achieving the NC level unless comprehension matched ability to read the words. There are a huge number of criteria involved in awarding NC levels.
