Went to my DD parents eve and they talked about this scheme. (She's 5 and in year one) Im really happy with her progress in all areas and they said she is doing well but needs to 'apply' herself more in her read write inc. All fine except she is in the blue colour and Ive looked on the internet and that seems quite good for her age.

Any teachers out there who can advise? Is this a 'good' level to be at in year one? Also, any advice on how to support her more in her phonics. We read every night and she's always writing.

Btw Im a teacher but this isnt my age/area.

Thank you

You could try having her read Ladybird classic tales to you, and have her sound out any of the words that she doesn't already know/know how to read. Don't tell her what any of the words are, but help her sound them out if she needs help.

Sounds like you're on the right track anyway, without advice.

Do you mean blue level for the books she brings home?

She brings home Oxford reading tree books. Are they linked to read write inc?

Learnandsay she's quite good at sounding out and having a go. She really likes reading, she's a bookworm like me :)

I teach RRI at my school, blue is good for yr 1. I'm quite new to scheme but I think it works quite well actually. In RRI we do sounds, read book then do a little writing work to go with story. Maybe they mean she doesn't do the best she is 'capable' of in this area.

I have a placement in a reception class that use RWI. They use ORT books ( amongst others).

If she is on blue level then she is doing well. I also read in my DC school with yr1,2 and4 kids. Year 1 ranges from pink to purple with the majority on yellow.

You can look at the Oxford owl website as there are loads of free ebooks to read.
