Calling all parents I need your help!
Looking for some advice from parents, I?m a young music graduate who currently works at a primary school teaching music, singing, drama ect... I?m looking to set up some arts based summer schools in the Kent area. I've looked and there dosn?t seem to be a whole lot out there involving the arts, particularly music, at a reasonable price point. However I thought who better to tell me what is needed better than parents? So any thoughts or suggestions on any of the following points would be really helpful. Thanks for taking the time to read this post.
?Price points per day what can most afford/ willing to pay
?Length 9-4 are optional late stays a good idea
?Would you be interested in a scheme, where you child was able to spend three or four days learning the basics of an instrument such as clarinet without having to purchase your own?
?For children who already play an instrument would they be interested in a band camp style scheme?
?Would it be a plus if you could come and watch your child perform at the end of their time?
?Do you prefer schemes that run for more than one day, for example and one going mini course of 5 days or are individual themed days better?

I would start before 9, so that parents who start work at 9 are able to drop the children off and go. Not necessarily starting the day's activities at 8:45, but receiving children from that point.

My DD is older now, and not particularly musical, but I don't think she would've wanted to spend whole days learning an instrument. She did however go to a week long drama camp, where the children put together a show for performance on the final day, which she enjoyed. I would've liked to have seen the show, but parents weren't allowed to attend.

The local dance school and gymnastics run schemes 9-3 with drop off from 8.30 and pick ups until 3.30 for £50 a week (Lancashire).

Days are organised like a school day so activity, break, activity, lunch, activity, break, activity home. Children take packed lunches.

The dance school has a theme for the week and puts on a show for parents on the friday afternoon which is nice to see what they have done all week.

There are no music camps in our area so I could see it being popular - other options in our area are football camp or general sports.

9-4 will only suit parents who work/work part time. I have to discount a lot of interesting sounding holiday clubs because of the hours.

Re: price, I would pay up to £30/day for music tuition, but probably would only shell out for one week at this price. I currently pay £16/day for a council-run play scheme.
