Girl's cardigan sizes John Lewis vs M&S

My DD had a growth spur and now the 5-6 cardigans from M&S are really really too small. And b**y M&S doesn't do a 6-7, they jump straight to 7-8. Her dress and t-shirts are a 6-7 strangely.

When she started school in 2011 I bought a 7-8 by accident so had one spare and bought a couple more when I re-stock her uniform last autumn. But in the year inbetween M&S changed the cut and the ones from 2012 are huge on her.

I wasn't happy with Next or Sainsbury so a friend suggested John Lewis. They have her colour but I have no idea how the sizes are compared to M&S. She has a normal JL cardigan in 5-6 and it still fits despite her being in 7-8 apart from school uniform now.

So if any of you uses JL and could give me a hint that would be appreciated. She currently goes to a phase where I have to change the cardigans daily so I am doing a mad wash/iron twice a week.

I find John Lewis much bigger in sizing compared to M&S, eg age 8 trousers in John Lewis equivalent to age 10 at M&S. That said I think M&S better for slimmer children, they seem to fit better whereas John Lewis is more "box like " in fit.

Thanks, then I may try a smaller size first.

Just order both sizes from John Lewis online, pay on credit card. Use free returns to send back the ones that don't fit to get your card refunded before bill becomes due. If you want 3 cardis then order 3 of each size.

I find John Lewis sizing to be very small, particularly in the chest. My daughter is 91% in height, but still, buying age 7 when she has only just turned 4 seems silly. I find the more expensive m&s cardigans to be noticeably larger than the value range.

GreenEgg, I bought a dress from Next, size 8-9 and DD isn't even 6 yet. I normally ignore all sizing guidelines and just take her with me shopping and everything gets tested in the shop. I got fed up with buying and returning 2/3 of it.

Unfortunately the value range doesn't come in her colour.
