What should I be expecting..

...from my school when it comes to sex ed? Is it part of the curriculum? Dd is in yr4 so will/should it feature in the next couple of years?
Also, I remember from my school days of having a mother and daughter evening all about periods etc, is this still done and is the fact my school is a small,rural school more likely to mean it won't be (due to small numbers attending)?

Anyone out there to enlighten me?

You'll have to ask your school - each school I've been involved with has done it differently. However, they've all had a sex ed policy which your school should be able to give you if you ask. Sex Ed is part of the current National Curriculum for Science, so until and unless Gove changes it, all state (non academy) schools have a statutory duty to teach it as part of the National Curriculum. How they teach it will vary from school to school.

I have bought my DD the smart girls guide to growing up which she is now reading after we had talked about periods and things together. I wanted to be the one who discussed all of this with her before it was discussed at school. The book actually is great (I read it first) and talks about all kinds of things that could prey on their minds exactly what do you do with the wings.
Though I know they have already talked a bit about body changes in PSHE.
