in-year school admission - appeal or not?

we moved 12 miles away from previous house/school. admission to the village catholic school (age 4-11s) turned down due to 30 pupils in reception class. the next catholic school is also full in a town 3 miles away. my only choice is a small primary school in the village with no church connections.
do i have a chance of appealing as i know he would have definitely got in at the beginning of reception year.

thanks for any help

No.

You have virtually no chance. The class is full. You also have a right to put a preference for a Faith school, but no right to insist your child goes to one.

On the other hand you don't have to move your child of you can get him to his previous school. You can also put his name on the waiting list for your preferred school.

:(((((((( just very annoying watching all the kids being driven to a school from afar when i can see it and with many of them not being catholic, knowing he should be in it :(
he is still at previous school but takes me 45 mins get there & costs fortune in petrol 4 times a day!

what happens when he gets to year 3? do they allow more in a class then? he has gone to the top of the waiting list.

With 30 in Reception mummytime is correct that your chances of success at appeal are pretty much non-existent.

Infant class size rules do not apply in Y3 so an appeal then will be easier to win. As your son is at the head of the waiting list I hope you won't have to wait that long for a place.

Well, to be fair, he shouldn't be in it, because he wasn't there in time. They were. No point getting angry when the situation is of no one else's making. What's wrong with the other primary school, apart from the lack of church connections (which is nothing wrong with it in my book, but there you go)?

But yes, I believe it gets easier after KS1 when the class size limit of 30 is lifted. There will still be a PAN though. Hopefully one of the experts on here will advise.

Ah, there you go. Good aren't they!

not angry, just stressed & disappointed for him that he will lose out. i meant, that if we were here at the beginning of the year, he would have got in.
i am just hoping someone leaves soon! don't know how long i can take the commuting.
been to visit the other school & not impressed with it or its poor ofsted unfortunately.
other option would be to move him until year 3 but don't know if i could move him twice :(
