What is the difference between value added and percentage of pupils making expected progress? Which is better to ascertain the schools effectiveness? (Obviously alongside visits, ofsted etc)

Is it true that a VA score of 101 is good, 100 is average and 99 is poor?

iirc, the error margin on VAM is so wide that there is no statistical difference between 99 & 101. Or a range thereabouts, anyway.

I would think below 95 would be a strong sign of poor progress and 105+ would be a reliable sign of better than expected progress. I wouldn't trust the numbers to mean a lot, otherwise.

Thanks horriblemother, that's useful to know. All the schools I'm looking at are between 99 and 102 so the tables don't really tell me much then on that front!
