Has anyone got any good ways to help a Yr 6 boy revise maths topics when hes really reluctant to do so? He's starting to get tests at the end of each term and having to realise that he can't rely solely on remembering the last topic they covered as the tests now include things from earlier in the year or even before that. Have you looked into any ways of making it fun?

Was trying to think, hence asking, my own maths is quite shaky, his main problem is with timed 'mental maths' type tests where teacher has said he seems to freeze and forget what he knows which then means a low score.

The best way to revise maths is to do some, so get him to do a past paper, mark it, then go through with him how to do the questions he couldn't do. Www.emaths.co.uk has all the ks2 SATs papers for free that you can download in the student section, with answer schemes for you!

Sites like Mathletics are good for mental practice, the live Mathletics section, and their other activities are good for revision of different topics.
