Do Key Stage 1 levels for Maths and Writing have to be similar

I have been umming and ahhing posting this seeing as I know it will be seen as a not so stealth boast but I really want to know.

My August born (31/08) DS is in year 2, I have always been told he does really well for his age and is achieving average levels. We had a parent's evening last week ( and this is the boasty bit) we were told they had done a practice SATS paper and he had acheived full marks on the level 2 paper and an exceptional score on the level 3 paper for his age ( 6 and 5 months).

So OK thats great I'm pleased for him but this is where my concerns begin, she has also told me he is achieving 2a for writing and will get a 3 by the end of the year- now this can't be true.

We were sent home levels and targets at the end of the Autumn term and for writing it was 1a with an end of year target of 2b; which to be perfectly honest I thought was pushing it.

I know his writing has not improved and his writing targets are 'use full stops and capital letters' and 'try and use joining words'. He writes 2 or 3 sentences for a piece of work and is nowhere near the standard of the examples posted on here.

My concern is that his teacher has pushed up his writing level so that it is more in line with his Maths, do teachers have to show consistency in maths and writing teaching and therefor results?

I am also slightly concerned whether this will affect how he is set for literacy and numeracy when he gets to the Junior School in September, he is currently at an infants only.

Sorry that is very long thanks for reading it if you got this far.

No it is quite normal for writing in particular to lag behind reading and maths at this age so the teacher has no reason to give the same level for all

Thanks Mrz, I am a bit confused then because I really am sure he isn't achieving that for writing, I can only assume the teacher has evidence of it not in his writing folder that we weren't shown.
