Reading book - Dandelion Talisman Series. Thinking of buying some for dd, are they worth getting?

DD is 6.5yr and struggled with reading at first so was moved for a period, from JP books to Dandelion readers. IMO they were great so much more appealing for her she whizzed through them and her confidence has really been boosted.

Now she is back on, although coming to the end of the JP blue bks. I was considering buying a set of the books mentions above, which a ppear to be the next lot of Dandelion readers after the ones she has completed.

Can anyone/teachers tell me if they are worth getting? I obviously dont want to set her back at all but would love to find something more appealing and lesS prehestoric than the JPs.

TIA

They are intended for 8-14 year olds but really popular with some of our younger boys.

Has she had the extended code books from Dandelion www.phonicbooks.co.uk/product.php?catid=2&subcatid=20&act=yes#

Yes she has read those and the split vowel ones. I just liked the format of the books, much better than the jp in my opinion. She has now been reading some small chapter books but it is tricky for her so don't want her to push/rush herself and knock her confidence.

There is a new series available - Magic Belt

I did look at those but from looking at the text pages I think she would just breeze through them and there doesn't appear to be anything in them that she is unable to read with ease. Would like to find something that is up a notch but also explanatory in its format iyswim.

If you can wait until March, they are publishing a series of books aimed at girls (but KS2/3) Alba series. 12 books specifically written to appeal to girls in KS2/3. Reading Age KS1 -start at cvc level

Wonder how much money there is left in my book budget

educator123 · 19/02/2013 12:48

:) I know they aren't cheap are they!? But I don't mind if it helps. The school is tiny 43pupils so they don't have a huge selection of books. I might mention the ones you have said though...you never know they might get some :)

Educator - have you got a link to the ones you want to buy??

taczilla · 19/02/2013 21:19

My dd has started on these and reading your comments re approx age and also how boys quite enjoy them it explains a lot. She is 5 and finds the actual stories of no interest to her as they are a bit gloomy including the illustrations.

I prefer to just pick a variety from the library to keep her engaged.
