and seemingly school are content for him to wake the lead with learning for a bit..
he is in yr1 and at 2a for his both his maths and literacy.
He loves going to school and loves learning. and the school are certainly bringing out the best in him at the moment.

However, at parents evening, we were advised that they were delighted because he had already pretty much achieved what they wanted him to achieve by the end of next year.

We asked, what next then, as he is going to want to carry on. They then talked about following his lead with it.. it felt a little wishy washy.. do they actually mean that they are going to allow him to coast??

Want to keep that spark for learning.. it is such a joy to see in him.

I would just leave him to enjoy school.

I understand, but that is my point, up to now, he has loved school because he is absorbing and learning stuff that he didn't know.

From the sound of what was said it appears that they are not going to actively encourage him to keep on with this rate of learning.

If he wants to I want him to...

Google is your friend, educational games, (maybe a bit later - Royal Institution Christmas Lectures) There's a mumsnet thread about Romans, Greeks, Saxons, read the gifted and talented board. (You might find lots of arguments about what G&T means. But it might be helpful.) Usborne publish children's books on everything. Buy all the secondhand children's books you can find. If you don't like them you can give them back and if you do you can look for other similar things. Buy and old set of Encyclopaedias. Visit a big library. When your child isn't with you, spend some time in the reference room - if your library doesn't have one ask for the nearest one- thinking about what you could show your child if she was with you.
