Hi I'm just curious if anyone had any experience , good or bad , about mixed reception and year one teaching . Does it benefit either year ?!? Thank you for posting :)

My son benefits from it as he is a sept born reception age child. He is very bright and so is mostly grouped with the y1s but also needs to be silly, play lots etc which he does with reception children.

That's really good to know , my son is June but I think he's pretty smart ( guess we all do !!) and he ll be year one next year as the school are mixi g the classes for first time. . I'm just concerned it won't push him and he'll stay more at reception level than year one ?!?

No, they will address each child individually. Teachers have to prove constantly that each child is making progress, based on their own previous experience. My daughter is in a mixed R,1 and 2 class and has gained enormously in maturity both by mixing with older children and by 'looking after' the younger ones. Her teacher still knows exactly where she is academically, what she needs to develop and what are her strengths.

That's really reassuring thank you so much :)
