Calling mrz, feenie, maizieD, other phonics experts....is there an omission in the Phonics International alphabetic Code chart? Or am I going ever so slightly loopy?

(We are in France, hence the 'parent going it alone' situation before anyone suggests talking to the teacher).

We were working on which, what, when, why, who words tonight....came to "who" and DD went to pronounce it with the initial /w/ sound, like when, what etc. I said, no, sometimes the sound of "wh" is /h/. Got the Phonics International Chart out....but under /h/ there is just one entry (hat) and no "wh"....

Is it a mistake or I am getting myself tied up in phonics knots?

DD and I spent most of the weekend creating our own, homemade wall chart based on the one I linked to, complete with drawings. Going to have to check it agaibst the second chart now.

I know that Debbie Hepplewhite says her charts don't contain very rare correspondences. I guess you could argue whether the wh for /h/ is rare - she also advocates adding to the chart with children if they find unusual ones, which is exactly what you've done with dd and your homemade one.

They seem to be all w- h - o words if that helps.

I think that is debatable, greythorne. There do seem enough there to make it not seem so rare.

And since it appears in her later charts, there must have been some revision.
