IC in YR 1 - cause for concern?

DS just got 1C for eveything except writing which he got W.
He is struggling and is in learning support every day.
I didn't think this seemed too bad and he does go to a very academic british school (oversea's though).
What is an unbiased view? Is this grade OK?
School have got me very worked up and he is wetting the bed now nearly every day but if we were in the UK would he be running with the pack or would he be very behind there as well?

Expected level for the end of year 1 is 1b.If he is a 1c half way through year 1 I would say there is nothing to be overly concerned about.

1a is the actual target in most schools now for end of year one, by the sounds of it he could be a little behind target but nothing major at this stage, my daughter is only 1c and she's year two.

Why is he wetting the bed? What are they doing to him?

I would be asking the school how to support him in writing but I think everything else is fine.

My DC school target children to get a 1B in everything except reading (which is a 1A) at the end of yr1.

1C at this point in the year is perfectly fine. He is well on track for a 1B/A by the end of the year.

Basically the school has very high expectations and are on his case big time so he is in learning support every day which he knows means he is struggling as he is not stupid (but thinks he is).
I just think he is stressed with it all but changing schools would be a huge problem for a number of reasons but am looking into it.

I'd be more concerned about the bedwetting than his levels, tbh....they sound, as mrz says, fine.

But the stress doesn't, if thats what causing the bedwetting...

I know I am concerned as he has been dry day and night since he was 2 and can't even remember any accidents but the bed wetting is really frequent at the mo and I can only think it is stress as it's not an infection.
Thats why I wanted to know if there was a real cause for concern and all the pressure at school or if it is just the school he is in which I think it might be.

I would see a GP about the bedwetting.

If you are both so stressed and worried and the pressure is too much would home schooling be an option?

It's alot of pressure for a 5/6 year old there should still be room for fun and play in year one even though it's much less than reception.

No way I would home school - he would drive me mad!! :0) plus I am stuck on DD homework in Y4 :0)
I do wonder whether to change his school though as it does have very high expectations that right now he just cannot meet.

Low the level is. Some will always struggle all we can ask is that they do their best and that should be enough. Hope you get it sorted :)

I would be very cross with the school saying 1c at this stage of year 1 not ok.
