Reserve list for 7+ entry 2013

My DS (first time I've ever used that title but it seems the norm here) has just managed to get on to the waiting list at Colet Court for 7+ entry.

I must have read and re-read LondonStressedMummy's thread from this time last year a hundred times in the last few days. LondonStressedMummyWaitingListThread2012

Is there anyone out there going through the same torture and dreaming of multiple offer holders preferring WUS or Kings or somewhere else? Do all those that were interviewed get put on the waiting list or have they reduced the numbers at all?

He's at a prep which goes through to 13 and really happy there so we only entered for CC as DW (again a typing first!) and I would love him to go there and believe that he will thrive there.

Think it was us as we got through to them shortly before your post and declined the place - very fortunate to have had another place elsewhere. My DH (first time I've ever used the title either) says he is looking forward to the kiss...! Glad everything worked out so well.

TLD - welcome to CC - fab school, have two DC, one now @ StP from CC and one at CC, and your DS is set for a wonderful experience!

Congrats touchlinedad. It was meant to be the bonus if getting do close to not making it is you appreciate being there even more...if that's possible. You're ds will love it there it really is the most amazing place :)

TCSW - presume you're delighted where your DS has got in. My little soldier is absolutely thrilled as despite taking the setback news well last night he was more than a bit gutted having set his heart on being a CC boy. Admirably, and in probably the same response as many at schools that generally go through to the 13+, he is now concerned that he is going to miss his old friends.

With regards to doing my bit around my original Mumsnet post the lesson as so well reiterated by LondonStressedMummy is that at CC :
the waiting list is real;
they don't stick everyone down on it after the interviews;
they have an order of preference and stick to it rigorously;
not everyone gets in from it (we were obviously incredibly lucky so no smugness here).

The thing to take away is that there are multiple posters who get in to CC/ WUS/ KCJS every year from the waiting lists. Don't slit your wrists (metaphorically) until the final closing phone call - refuse to mention fat ladies singing..

As before well done to everyone that got in to their chosen school and now that my DS2 is in, here's hoping for a strong CC rugby team :)

Thanks again all for kind words and advice. DS too speaking about missing friends. He doesn't realise he's at the age of the diaspora - all his mates heading in different directions anyway.

That last week was difficult. Wasn't sure how to tell DS that he'd (reportedly) done v well in exam and (also reportedly) well in the interview and still that wasn't enough. Not sure how a child can process that.

WesterleyDad - you're so right about the difficulty of explaining having done really well but still having just missed out to a little kid, especially when all those that apply to those sorts of schools* are bright little sparks and they're not used to academic knocks.

Thankfully a few others are leaving his prep either to ease the school run by going to their sster's co-ed school or to go to another "through" school so the sadness of leaving his little mates will be shared by others.

*fully expecting to get barracked for a phrase like that :)

Good luck to those trying again or for the first time at 7+ or 8+. For those that end up in wait list hell I'm amazed how many of the little soldiers have come through that route.

I will add that no news can be a good thing. In our case we were probably a couple down the list so had to wait a while before the relieving phone call came through.

I know this is a dead thread but on the off chance... Does anyone know if there is a reserve list for nlcs?

Smalltoothbrush · 29/01/2014 21:06

Yes, they offer 40 places and a few waiting list places. I know of at least one person last year who turned down NLCS for Habs.

BTW I'm talking about 4+, just realised I'm on a 7+ thread!

Thank you smalltoothbrush!

Yes need info for 7+ ... But if they have a reserve list at that stage I am sure it would be at 7 too... I'll hold on to that hope!!

They'd have to really - surely everyone is sitting for several schools so it would be unusual for every place to be taken up.

We're on the waiting list for CC 8+. Who is with us? Any ideas how long is the list?

Cheese2013- We wanted to find out the same thing, but we are on the CC 7+ waiting list. Any one have any idea how long these lists normally are?

The CC lists for 7+ and 8+ are not too long at all and are in rank order. I personally know of at least two families at both 7+ and 8+ who will be turning down their places so there is hope! Well done on getting this far and best of luck!

Sunstoneeducation- thanks for that piece of information. It's a bit of a relief to know that the lists are not too long.

sunstoneeducation - by "not too long" (waiting list) do you mean 3-5 or up to 10 boys?

Report
sunstoneeducation · 03/02/2014 13:43

Closer to 10, if not more. However, you have to remember that a large number of boys who have been offered a place will also have at least one other offer from King's, WUS, Sussex House etc. Colet Court is not everybody's first choice. Quite a few boys on the reserve list get accepted into all of these schools so stay positive!

thanks sunstoneeducation! do you know this for sure (lenth of reserve list)? will they tell what number we are ifI call them?

ThisIs40 · 03/02/2014 15:01

We will be turning down our 7+ offers at Kings and WUS to take up CC, so a couple of families waiting for those schools will be very happy.
