I thought my son was doing well at school he is nicely on target for 5Bs in maths and English in year 6. We just had a letter saying that the school is going to recieve extra support from the LEA because the academic attainment of the children is inadequate. How common is this.

I feel sick with worry.

Did the letter refer to your son? It might simply be a letter to all parents. I'm sure you're quite welcome to ask whoever sent it to you.

Your son IS doing well if he is on target for a 5 of any description. Why do you feel sick with worry? Extra financial support for the school sounds good to me. While it is likely to be targeted at children with lower attainment there is no reason why your son should be disadvantaged.

Sounds to me like a general issue in the school, not about your child. Do you know what the SATs results were like last year? Sounds as though they're not meeting expected targets.

However, I don't see how it can be a bad thing- they have identified a problem, they will be receiving extra support and your DC is working above average for his age.

The only thing I might want to check is whether they are secure in their assessments- if there is an assessment issue then that might affect your

Might affect your son. What I mean is, are they absolutely sure he's on a 5?

"Why do you feel sick with worry? "

My daughter will go to the same school.

"Might affect your son. What I mean is, are they absolutely sure he's on a 5? "

I hope their assessments are right. My son is in his last year so its a bit late to do anything if he isn't achieving what he should.

The letter was given to every parent without the opportunity to ask questions. As parents we all feel a bit taken aback. If the school is failing I am glad they have asked and been given extra help. I suppose it shows that management is good enough to identify poor attainment and seek help.
