Dd starts new school tomorrow. Worrying if it was right choice?

We moved house a few months ago. Dd was in Yr3 of a lovely if "naice" primary popular oversubscribed lots of mc children parents focuse on their kids progress etc... Very active PTA . Good teachers good kids, her class were kind and well behaved.

however new house is over 2 miles away so need to drive to school with 2 yr old in tow so day revolved around school runs. Also 2 yr old would not get in to nursery/school as too far away. Therefore school runs would be nightmare! We put her name down on the local outstanding school profile of the school similar to school she was at. However she is 6 on waiting list so not much of a chance of getting in.

Had a look at school closest to us (10 min walk) ofstead rates it as good but notes in profile very large 46% of fsm. (old school 7%) and esl 67% old school 14% so school very different demographics. A bit worried dd will feel out of place as no ofher children of her ethinicty in her new school year, New school has 2 forms but only 20 kids in each form in dds year at the moment. Is this good? Or bad sign? Anyhow we decided to move her there as seemed nice school and ks2 data results same as old school. Plus has after school play centre and activities very cheap compared to old school.

Old school has said they will hold her place open for her for 4 weeks if we want it back. I don't think 4 weeks is long enough to judge (didnt even expect them to hold it open at all)

I guess I'm asking whst do I need to ask/ look out for at new school to reassure myself I have made right decision?

If she is starting today just wait and see how it goes. 4 weeks is long enough for her to know if she likes it.

Sorry to be a party pooper but there is no way that the old school can hold her place for 4 weeks. As soon as you start the registration will change to the new school and your daughter will cease to be a pupil at the old school. That generates a place at the school and if it is over-subscribed the school has to by law fill the place with the first pupil on the waiting list or if no waiting list the first person to ask for the place.
Stop worrying about the new school, you have made the decision for all the right reasons. Leave it till towards the end of the summer term and then re-evaluate. However there is absolutely no guarantee that you will get a place at another school in the area.

Thankyou for your comments, I do get a good feeling about the school so hope my daughter is happy and does well there. Although her old school is oversubscribed generally. A lot of children have left her class within the last few months currently only 24 pupils out of 30 intake. There hasn't been any new joiners so maybe thats why they said the 4 week thing?
