Year 3... The difference between the high achievers and less able in the class

Had a playdate after school with a few mums and the kids from ds' class. After a while one of the girls in ds' class got her homework out (maths) and started to do it. She was sitting next to me and I was really impressed at the ease she was doing the maths. Some of the sums I had to think twice about. We get home and ds' homework is easy peasy (for me obviously) in comparison but yet ds finds it sooo tough.. It just makes me sad for ds that he can't find things naturally that easy.

The clue is in the fact the girl got her homeowrk out on a playdate. Numbers are obviously her thing. Don't compare your DS to her. Listen to what his teacher is telling you and support him with games. Top trumps is always my top suggestion.

Lol I bet her mum told her to do her maths homework! Your DS probably isnt behind. My DS does maths I dont understand already but there's no way I'd let him do his homework at a play date....go and play, be a 7 year old!

My DS loves maths but there is no way he would get it out on a play date!!

He would rather be playing the wii or something....

He is in yr3 too btw...

I know, kids are all different, and ds is very popular, sporty, funny, a real little lad. It just amazed me how she got it out and did it so easily. I always struggled with maths and ds is obviously taking after me in that department!!

I get my children to translate Ancient Hebrew texts on playdates. It really puts the wind up other mums.

All kids are different, dont worry so much your little one sounds a treasure and more than enough to be proud of.
