School trips, can you afford them?

Just had letter about dd1 school trip next year. It's 5 days outdoor activity type holiday.
The part payment is £260!!
In really don't think we can afford to send her, and really think its a huge amount of money when we can all go on family for same price of her five days with school.

Will she hate me forever if she doesn't go?

HedgeHog - the school does not get pupil premium for kids with SN.

Only for FSM and forces kids.

I would go into school and tell them.

Dd1's 5 day residential was about £300 but they said they would do their best to make sure no one didn't go due to finances.
Out of a year of 150 about 6 pupils didn't go, I think 1 was banned due to behaviour, but at least one chose not to go because they didn't want to.

I'm gobsmacked at field trips in their £1000s, how many families can afford that and is the educational value any greater for that? Can't a geography trip be done in the UK / France / Italy etc?

Are these state schools?

Yes DS1 is at a State Secondary Blueberry. The Morocco trip did sound fabulous. But can't justify that much on one child.

Sparkling thanks, if it comes to it, I'd feel the same way. I find it amazing, I thought that the trips should be as inclusive as possible, not sure how they can be at that price.

Well he is missing out on camel trekking in the Sahara and sleeping in the desert under the stars. To be fair knowing DS1 food would be an issue though.

I think trips get even more mad in secondry but at primary would expect more inclusive reasonable prices.
