Head girl at school where I used to work nominated a child of the week each week who they had seen be kind etc, they also helped with celebration type assembly (handing out certificates) I'm not sure if they didn't cover in office answering phone at lunch as a bit of responsibility (I never saw this but think I remember someone saying that's what happened.

Chairing school council meetings and helping the younger members of it get their points across.
Reading out some of the notices in assembly.

My DD was Head Girl at primary school, and her duties included showing potential new parents around (although, rightly, the school did use all Year 6 pupils for this at some stage), looking out for potential problems in the playground (and reporting them!), reading a prayer at the Carol Service and Remembrance Day. I had to present the prizes at Sports Day!

The mum of a friend of DD's later told me that at her daughter's school, the Head Girl and Deputy were responsible for decorating the Christmas tree.

Thanking visitors who have come to talk to the school and hinting the school would like them to ask for a half holiday

Stage an insurrection, refuse the position and ask why a PRIMARY school would want to be singling out two children??? I've never heard of that but I think it's a horrible idea. Really divisive.

Our HB and HG don't show potential parents round the school. That is the HM's job and it wouldn't be fair to disrupt their own lessons.

However they do play a part in official ceremonies - such as handing the prizes to the prizegiver at speech day and saying the vote of thanks from the pupils.

They sit on the committee which decides on which charitable organisations will benefit from various fund raisers and they take the lead in these events.

They help officiate at Sports Day - particularly organising the other Yr 7/8's in their roles as scorers, judges, assisting the little ones etc.
