Does someone know the book :Silly Suzy Goose? Which reading level should the child be able to read it?

Hi,

This book does not have book bands at the back. I got this book from the school to share the story with my child. This is a story about a goose who thinks she is too similar to the other goose. So she pretends to be a seal, elephant, giraffe, lion etc... (not in this order). And at the end she went back to the other goose (because the lion frightened her) and she thought it is ok to be similar to others.

I am really interested which reading level (or ORT level) the children should be able to read this book?

All answers are welcome, but I would like to hear the teachers opinion as well, please. Thanks.

We have the book, no idea on what level it would be though.

No idea, sorry.

Great book though, DS loves it!

I have no idea either. But can I ask why you want to know?

I just wanted to know, because I got this book to share it with my son, so I supposed to read to him, but he read it to me. He needed a bit of help, probably 90% of the book he read it without any help and quickly. He finished the book within 5 mins. He is in red level books in the school and I just wanted to know if he is ready to move on to the next level.

It is not easy to decide, because he is an only child, and I am his mother and of course I think he is the best reader in the world, but honestly I do not know if I should ask the teacher to move him up one level or not. I do understand that the teacher has 29 other children in the class and she does not always know or pick up as quickly as parent (who read with the child every day) if the child should move reading level.

To be moved up a reading level he needs to be consistently reading and understanding books at the level he is on. If he is regularly reading much harder books at home this may be an indication that he should be moved up (but he also needs to satisfy other criteria than just knowing what the words say). You can't really judge from a single book (even if it is at a higher level) - some children find some styles of book easier to read than others.

Thanks for your answer redskyatnight. I agree with you. But I still would like to know which reading level this book belongs to.
