number reversals

Hi all dd1 is 8.7 she's always struggled with maths. Parents evening the other week I was told she's low average. I told the teacher that dd reverses numbers ie 105 she will read as 150 or 75 she will write as 57. This isn't all the time but about a third of the time. Teacher hasn't noticed (I think dds table carry her a bit in maths and she copies their answers). Also despite repeatedly being told when she counts in 100s she says ten hundred instead of a thousand and seems to forget number rules easily.

Is this normal in an 8.7yr old? She does have ADHD but doesn't require help at school especially just prompting and guiding on het behaviour. Is it worth getting teacher to give her a bit more help?Thanks. Oh AMD reading and writing is above average

No, this does not sound like low average.

She should be getting extra help with her numeracy.

Then to be 'low average' at this stage of the year she would need to be working at a 2a or 3c.

If she's working below a 2a she should be on a maths intervention.

If she's not, if she's working at a 2a or above, then she's doing fine enough and I'm wrong.

Sometimes muddling tens and units puts her at a 2C

Although of course there are lots of strands and she may be higher in some than in others.

It would seem to indicate that she doesn't understand what the position of the numbers means I would probably go back to tens and units

See she can't do the pairs of numbers very well I.e. 6+4 and 3+7 is ten. She still counts on her fingers. Spoke to lovely TA who will pass message on to teacher

We found with DD that she just needed a bit on consistant practice at home to get these skills under her belt. About 5 mins 4 times a week did it.

That's roughly what we are doing now but will keep it up and try and find other ways of sneaking maths in!
