Hi,

My six year old has his assessment day for year 3 admission to MGS in a few weeks. He's worked through some of the material from the bond books. Was wondering what actually happens on these assessment days? Does anyone have any direct experience?

Thanks

Good news here too! Not sure if it is true, but I heard over 100 children applied for bursary among all the applicants. But only one or two gets a bursary.

Yes, I've been told there's typically only one per year in the junior school. But a lot more in the senior school of course - more than 240 altogether.

Hi, I am not sure if anyone will read this thread...but my DS has also secured a place in Year 6 at MGS ( yippi, this is our 2nd attempt).
Please can anyone share their experiences about travelling on school coach (Altrincham)
Also, I want to know if boys are allowed to carry a mobile?
Thanks for your help

Hi all, my son has an assessment for year 5 in 2 weeks time. Any idea on what I can expect on the day. I have been prepping him with bond books but I hear they give him lessons on new topics and then tests based on the lesson taught? Also any insight on how my son is expected to do his creative writing please. Thanks mums xx

My son started at the mgs this September in year 7. Not familiar with the junior assessment. Have a look the posts in the 11 plus form under Trafford, I remember someone was talking about it last year.

We did the year 3 assessment a few years ago. The only prep we did was bond books for English, Maths and verbal and nonverbal reasoning. They are looking for boys who are inquisitive and willing to have a go at things.

Hi there, they usually ask you to do a piece of descriptive writing. Focus on correct SPaG, interesting ideas, fancy vocabulary, the five senses and a range of punctuation.
For older kids (Yrs 5) they usually give a story such as A Family Outing.
They teach maths that the child hasn’t done before and are not only looking for correct answers but engagement in the lessons.
For the little ones, they often watch them do puzzles etc then ask them about their thinking process.
For Year 6 entry into Year 7, all the practice papers are available on the school website.
