How many days has your dc been off sick starting reception?

My dd has been at school for three and a half weeks and already she has missed 4 days due to 2 separate illnesses. She is still ill and I may not even be able to send her on Monday. At the moment she has a very snotty nose, a cough and is breathing noisily. I am getting a bit stressed about it. Her attendance is 78% so far and I gather from mn that is very poor and wonder if the school will be cross.

1 so far...Friday she had been up all night with a horrid cough. She's still got it and I am now wondering about tomorrow too!

I have to say I am jealous of these ox like immune systems. Both my kids are ill, so am I and so is my DH. So is my mum and so is DD's teacher!

ds is in the 6th form - I'd guess around 10 days in total
dd1 is in Yr9 - I'd guess around 8 - 10 days in total
dd2 is in Yr6 - doubt if she's had 5

Mine all got their chickenpox over and done with in Nursery or even before they started Nursery Smile

Daughter Y4 - 0
Son Y2 - 1
Daughter - reception 0

They have all managed to get German measles, chickenpox, impetigo and vomiting bugs during the holidays though Confused

DS1 between 8-10 days in each of the school years. He gets tonsillitis every year at least once and he does get stomach bugs/colds easily.

DS2 only takes 2-3 days in the year. He has a stronger immune system.

Beanbagz · 01/10/2012 15:03

None and he's now in Y3!

(but they are dropping like flies in his class at the moment)

It's quite funny, my dd is 14 and is immensely proud that she has only had 5 sick days since starting reception.
But ds2 who is 9 had more time off in reception due to illness than she has ever had in her school years!

Although in his defense he has excema and asthma and hayfever and catches every bug there is whereas Dd is rarely sick.

Ds1 is somewhere in the middle but has 100%attendance yr 7-8.

We have been really lucky with DD(7) - she has never been a sickly child: even when she was at nursery/day care she was rarely ill.

Since starting school (now Y3) she has only had 3.5 days off sick, both in Y1 - 1.5 for a high temperature type bug the last week of term (when it was rife around the school) and then she developed chicken pox during the summer half term holiday which meant she didn't miss much school but we did end up missing our holiday!

This school year (Y6 for DS1), he has currently been off since 21st September...he is still very ill! Seen GP on 21st Sep, dxd with viral respiratory infection. Seen GP on 25th Sep, dxd with viral tonsillitis, but I insisted on a throat swab (was unconvinced it was viral). Seen GP on 28th Sep, dxd with streptococcal throat infection, given anti-B's. He now hasn't eaten ANYTHING since dinner time on Monday. Going back to GP at 3.30pm.

God knows how low his attendance is. Must be heading below the 85% where they involve the EWO. Gah!

CouthyMowWearingOrange · 03/10/2012 09:59

Unsure exactly how to work it out. There have been 44 sessions to the end of today (each day counts for 2 sessions).

DS1 has attended 26 sessions, been off ill for 16 sessions, and had 2 sessions as Authorised holiday to sit the alternative sitting of the 11+.

Trying to work out if it dips below 85% yet, but the Authorised absence is throwing me. Would that be counted or not?

CouthyMowWearingOrange · 03/10/2012 10:04

Crap. I'm surprised I haven't heard from the EWO already! Attendance is either 59% or 64%, depending on how they count the Authorised absence for the 11+.

Why do these things have to happen in September/October rather than June/July?!
