Things I've learnt about being a school mummy

My DS started infant school a couple of weeks ago. He's taking it all in his stride. Meanwhile I am on a whole new learning curve of how to be a mummy of a school-age-child. Things I've learnt so far...

  1. It is possible, in fact mandatory, to label an apple or banana with your child's name
  1. His book bag is advertising space - it comes home on Friday full of junk mail/flyers. Bit depressing how commercial it all is
  1. Nevermind lunch box police (school), there's a whole politik/sport between mummies of who packs the most wholesome, home-prepared lunch bag fodder

What else have you found?!!!

That DS's teacher doesn't really approve of working parents Sad
That parents 'evening' is no such thing (unless the evening has moved to between 2&5pm)
That I needed a new cheque book (I've had to write 7 already and we are only 3wks in!)
To appreciate the flexibleness of nursery
That whoever chose a compulsory school uniform that can't go in a tumble dryer has no children of their own.

Our school provides water bottles and fruit for snacks. Can't believe that some of you are expected to walk the kids in every morning (past reception age)!

I discovered that school uniform is a lot cheaper if you raid the second hand uniform box at the start of the year :)

I learnt NOT to put water bottle in the bookbag. It leaks and wrecks the book and her homework that was in there too Blush
Ditto a banana - sponging broqn squished banana off homework and reading book is not fun.

Also the timing of ear-piercing! Beginning of the summer holidays so they can heal and be OK to be removed for swimming and PE by September.

Blueberryhill, you do realise that you will be accused of competitive banana graffiti, don't you?

I joined the voluntary fruit labelling set when DD came home in tears that her banana had gone missing and as they weren't named the teacher couldn't sort it out. The teacher had suggested she ate what was left in the fruit box - oranges - which she hates, so she went without.
DS avoided this by trying to stash his banana in his classroom drawer .... you can imagine the consequences ... Oh how I hate bananas!

Stealth, unfortunately I'm not Banksy though.
