we at end of week. been back 2half weeks.

Another local school has an opening
smaller class sizes.

dd had bad year 1 academically and got upset.

I like pastoral care/ethos of curret school, she has lots of freinds.
academically school not doing well.

What should I do.

I was thinking veiwing 2nd school so can get fair comparision of support she be offered this year.

But with the sats being teacher assessment would it be a disadvantage moving say after october half term?

part of me says see how year 2 goes then decide as people naturally move at year 3.

but then think thats wasting a year why wait.

she does have one of better teachers in school this year.

But not sure who she get next year as lots temporary teachers at juniors and moving of staff arund highlighted by ofsted last term.

Current school has satisfactory ofsted and sats in 75%at keystage 2.

But next year who knows and think juniors can be bigger classes.

I have moved my children not long before October half term last year. However we are in Scotland and don't have SATS to contend with.

If I felt the school was not doing the best for my child then I would move them and not waste another year of their lives.

Also how important are the SATS really. Nobody is going to have Y2 SATS on their CV.

I wouldn't let Y2 SATS hold you back at all - they mean nothing worthwhile, and are just fuel for parental boasts!

The current opening in her year group may not be there this time next year so you may not get another chance to move her.
I would say though that it is more important that your child is making progress academically than looking at the overall results at the school. If your child is not making progress then it could be that a move would be a good idea.
It wouldn't do any harm to look round the other school so I would go for it!

i would think carefully about why you think your dd didn't do well academically in Y1. The fact that the schools ofsted and stats are not as good as other school doesn't mean much IMO If you are happy with her teacher and the pastoral care I would think carefully before moving her. Looking around new school will not give you any info about the teaching really. all schools will tell you they support children and do a great job.

Ooops forgot about year 2. just says year.

I dident rate her teacher last year
Quite a few of her year 1 cass did badly as the youngets kids in seperate split class last year did better ones than older ones in year-its split classes all way through.

She acheived just below average in nc levels
shes passed phonics test so there only ones who failed phonics test getting extra help with year 2 but despite passing she still struggles with reading-its not a best measure.

shes struggling with numeracy too, checked with teacher today no support with that.

27 in class this year was 30last year.
shes on bottom tables for litercay and numercay as all her table go special help as they failed phonics test and shes left behind as she passed it.

Ta only works 3half days a week in year .
teacher 4half days as they now have specilaists one afternoon for music and pe.

Told hubby its rare this village school has opening its very small 104pupils cpmpared to 303 at current and split classes but think ratios be better she needs more one to one and think as shes lower middle and well behaved she snot getting much .

They year 2 teacher seems competant.

But was broight to attention today dangerous accident at school non reported which mean child sat in class all afternoon with broken ankle until mum picked up and school dident realise. shes on crutches for 6weeks.

last year had social investigate and downgraded ofsted so never seeems to be good news.
