Hi everyone,

My ds is currently in year 2 and later in the year his school hold 7+ examinations in which two scholarships are awarded. I intend to enter him into these exams but would like to know how the exam papers are laid out in order to prepare him for the format of the tests. Does anyone have any idea where I can access 7+ past papers?

Thanks for any help in advance!

Depends how they are doing it. If it was within school, do they not give guidance on format closer to the time? Until then I'd just keep supporting his school work - IMO you can't tutor for a scholarship, he'll either be at that stage or not. But DS did 7+ for a school entrance, so this might help:

English - basic comprehension, also things like underline the NOUN in this sentence, then write a short story or description (I think he probably did about 10 lines)

Maths - basic addition, subtraction, knowing numbers in words, multiplaction facts (and in reverse) of x5 x10 x2 x3 x4 tables. Also simple telling the time problems and word problems. Look at Schofield and Sims books in WHSmith.

Also verbal reasoning (check out Bond books) and some do Non-verbal reasoning too. Most schools I know put more store in these results as they are supposed to check more 'core' intellect, rather than learnt knowledge IYSWIM. But if something is at least a bit familiar then obviously it helps. Start with a few from 6-7 level to build understaning and confidence and then some 7-8.

Kings College Junior School also has a past 7+ paper on its website.
