Shirt with buttons in KS1. How silly it is?

Hi,

Let me start this thread. I would like to tell you that I am not English, but I leave here for 8 years. My son just started Reception and he was 4 in July.

How silly is that giving shirt with buttons for such a small boy.

It doesn?t help the school at all. Let?s just see the PE session. I do not understand why they would like from a 4 year old child to be able to do the buttons on his or her shirt? I tried my son shirt and it was hard to do the buttons even for me. I am sure he won't be able to do it alone for at least half or 1 year. And tell you the truth I won?t force him, because he can manage his pants, socks, trousers, t-shirts, jumpers, etc... Bloody shirt, it is not his fault; it is the education system faults. And the teachers complaining the children are not able to dress and undress alone. Would not be better to give them t-shirt (the smarter one where you have only two or three buttons at the top and you do not even need to undo these buttons to take the shirt down)?

Or in the other point of view. How comfortable for the children to sit in these kinds of clothes in a school for whole day? Or not just sit but to play in the playground? Have you ever thought to give a shirt (or suit) to your child when you went out to the park or to the playground to play on the slide or swing?

I can understand why they use uniform in secondary schools. Probably because they would like to introduce that people do not wear what they would like in their workplace.
But it did not make sense for me to wear shirt or suit in KS1.

I really would like to hear your opinion about it.

I agree really. Polo shirts can look smart I don't see the need for fiddly buttons that even adults struggle with and don't get me started on tight top buttons. My dd also has to wear a tie all be it an elasticated one.

Totally agree....in old school shirts and tie for 2 terms and polo shirt for summer term..... i noticed a big difference in how easy it was to get 3 boys ready for school in the summer term !!!

If its any help ...M@S do VELCRO fasening for top button ...so a sort of pretend button .....not sure if in all shops but def on line.

I'm in Scotland where children start formal schooling with uniform at age 4.5-5.5.
My children's school uniform is shirts and ties from day 1, no polo shirts, but we've never had any issues with buttons and tying ties.
I don't think the uniform is silly, what I think is silly is the education system in England here children who are little ,ore than toddlers are starting formal schooling!
