dd wont be starting school until september next year. she goes to a really good childminder two days a week. she will be just 4 when she starts school. she is now the oldest child at the childminders by a long shot. the other children are babies and toddlers but dd relly enjoys it there. she wont be going to nursery as our school doesnt have one.
what id like to know is what will the school/ teacher expect dd to be able to do and what should i be doing to get her prepared for school. what are the best websites to look for ideas/resources to help dd?

hi bettykelly, you'll find lots and lots of similar posts on here and i think I'd be right in saying the answer, in just about every case, is 'independence'.
Don't worry about your DD knowing her alphabet, being able to read etc.

But do ensure that she can put her own coat on, put her shoes in the right feet, tuck her vest into her tights maybe, cut some food, go to the toilet by herself, wash her hands, recognise her name (for her peg at school).

mckenzie thank for the reply. funnily enough i started letting dd dress herself last week and i didnt think she could do it but she shocked me and can actually do it!!!!! so im going to start with the cutting food thing as she is not good with that and the tucking vest thing. the name thing is also something i didnt think about. thanks x

If you plan on her having packed lunch, then obviously concentrate on opening the foil or tupperware etc. Putting her socks on is another one as to start with, as certainly in the case of my two DCs, Reception PE was very gentle and so done in normal uniform, just on mats in bare feet.
Buttons is another thing to practice if she will have buttons on her school coat/cardigan. And zips.

It's exciting isn't it?
