Strict uniform at primary

Hi lovely people I hope you have some advice. I have 2 daughters at primary school in primary 4 (age 8) and primary 6 (age 10). It is a very good school but they could be going too far with the proposed uniform changes, which at present is quite shabby, granted. The idea is that for p5-p7 on non PE days will have to wear a shirt, tie, blazer with badge and girls will have to wear skirts chosen from approved styles, on PE days they can wear a poloshirt and trousers. The idea is to improve the ethos of the school and make them better role models for the younger pupils. I can just about except blazers and ties, but they will have a battle introducing skirts. Neither of mine even own a skirt through choice and I'll spend a fortune on heavy tights in winter. Youngest even wore trousers to a wedding recently, thats how much she hates skirts.

And yes I've heard the arguments that primaries can't enforce uniform but they say pupils can still be denied certain priveleges for non compliance, and above all it is a sign of a disobedient child. Or are they trying to set it deliberately too strict and turn a blind eye to sensible jackets/girls trousers etc?

Is this sensible for a primary school?

There was a court case (sorry if this has been said, haven't read it all) when a student took a school to court over enforcing girls in skirts and boys in trousers. Ironicaly it was a boy. He did it on principal and in order to prove his point e wore a skirt to school for months. Great kid!

Point is I am pretty sure they can't enforce the skirt/trouser thing in a state school.
Not a fan of blazers as I think they are impractical and cold. Do you have any imput?
Ask what jumpers can be worn if it is cold, and how will Y4/5/6 do art and paint in blazers, and if the blazers will be washable.

A V neck would be smart and more practical. Also, trousers but no leggings etc

I find it a bit OTT, but if they are set on it I would persue the details

Care to tell me where that came from. I haven't heard it unless you mean the Cambridge boy last year.

For the record our secondary do enforce skirts in 'formal' uniform required for some events like prizegiving etc.. They have the choice of complying or not taking part in the event.

Do your dd like leggings? Dd2 has been wearing black leggings and navy socks for over a week now and no one has noticed that they aren't tights, or if they have noticed they don't care, no holes in them yet, she could wear trousers but refuses to and finds tights too uncomfortable (she has various annoying sensory processing issues).

My state school kids wear a tie every day. Blazers compulsory from Y3. A much-hated beret for DD, etc.

Girls can wear trousers though! And they can wear wellies and take slippers to change into on snowy/sleety days.

You can have a strict uniform policy without losing all reason.
