More absence/late questions...

Here's another absence/late question for any experts....

If I take my child out of school at lunchtime - so he is not in school for the afternoon register - is his absence registered as an absence? Is it a full days absence or a half day's absence? How would it be reflected in the school statistics?

If he misses the morning session but is back in time for the afternoon register is he 'late' or does it count as an absence?

Would it count as a full day absence or would it be a half-day's absence?

I'm sorry to be pedantic... but what would happen if I took him out at 1.30 (the register is at one). I'm trying to avoid an absence mark!

It would not be claased as absent.

BlueMoon74 · 13/09/2012 21:57

Would still go down as an absence in our school - down on the % data! (regardless of what time you took him out!)

Why are you so desperate to avoid one absence over the whole year?

Wolfiefan - my DS was desolate last year as he had a medical appointment that they would not change one afternoon. I let him register after lunch, then took him out (hospital was a train ride into central London). He missed out on 100% attendance for the year (which his brother got) and so a book token.
So yes, 1 absence makes a difference. Yes it's marked down as authorised, but it also goes on your % absence if you are a parent that requests holiday in school time.
DS's other brother needs regular medical treatment that the school cannot provide. He has to miss 1 afternoon a week - and yes, I get letter about attendance %. 'Tis a wonderful enlightened attendance system we have! Grin

In my school if you are in class for registration and then leave say at 1.30 then you will get your mark for the afternoon and you would get your 100% attendance mark. We often encourage parents to make appointments for the afternoon for this reason.

My DS had some hospital appointments last year. One was at 10am so I told the teacher I would bring him to school afterwards. She suggested I bought him in at normal time (as I was going to school anyway with DD) and collected him straight after the register was taken. Then he would be marked as present for the morning. This is what I did and he had no absences for the year!

I have a CRB check and often help out so I stayed in the class and sharpened pencils while they were taking the register!

ours dont get marked as an absence as such if it is an appointment e.g. dentist, doctor, etc so it doesnt count on your absence record. It means that you dont get penalised for having to attend medical appointments

holyfishnets · 14/09/2012 18:57

As long as your son is there for both registers, he will get full attendance marks even if he leaves the site.
