There just doesn't seem to be anytime when she gets home from school. I don't know where it goes and she is currently going to bed at 7.
We get home at 3.30ish.
Snack.
Look at reading book from school. Chat about her day.
Telly while I do dinner (she is exhausted)
Dinner at 5.30ish (for dc)
Play till bath at 6.
Bath and book takes us to 7.

I know dd1 wants more time to play after dinner but I'm not sure if she should really go to bed any later.

What time do your dc go to bed?

DS goes at 7 but we sent him early tonight as his attitude of late has been appalling and he is very tired. Bearing in mind he gets up at 6-6.30 every bloody day, he is shattered.

They don't need more time to play, they need sleep. I would not keep a child up later. They have weekends.

CumberdickBendybatch · 13/09/2012 19:22

Dinner at 5 ish, bath at 6, stories and bed at 6:30. He's shattered

CumberdickBendybatch · 13/09/2012 19:23

There's a big gap between school and dinner - she can play then if she wants

unsureunderneath · 13/09/2012 19:32

After reading her school book she is exhausted and needs to just relax. I think dinner gives her a second wind.

Oh yes DS gets that second wind too but his head still hits that pillow and he's out. He could stay up later but I wouldn't let him.

SizzleSazz · 13/09/2012 20:12

I do tea at 4/4.30 rather than snack. Then a banana or something similar before bed. Seems to free up a bit more time and dd's are ravenous when they get in.

Bedtime for yrR and yr1 here is 7pm

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 13/09/2012 20:13

My ds is yr 1 and dd is yr 3 they go to bed at 7 and 7.30 respectively. Dd only started going at 7.30 at the beginning of the summer and she will be 8yo next month.

I think sleep is more important than play tbh and if she wants to play she had to forego the telly time.

CumberdickBendybatch · 13/09/2012 20:13

It's like that second wind you get when you stay up too late - you feel knackered until 11pm but if you push past midnight you feel wide awake.

It's lies and when it happens you should go to bed Grin

Harecare · 13/09/2012 20:13

DD1 ia in year 1 and goes to sleep at 7 and then wakes about 6:30/7 and she looks permanently shattered.

InelegantlyWasted · 13/09/2012 20:18

I am so disorganised I have struggled to get him into bed until 7.30pm. I don't think I could do it any earlier unless he had his dinner the minute he got in from school!

ShutTheFrontDoor · 13/09/2012 20:38

In bed for 7.30 never asleep before 9 !! Keep waiting for him to be shattered but after 2 weeks of full time it hasn't happened yet !
He's awake at 7 and wakes himself up !
Friends ds is in bed for 6 every night as exhausted

whatinthewhatnow · 13/09/2012 20:42

I am for bed at 7, we all get up at 7am.

Home at 3:30, play, chat, sort out junk from school
Dinner 5/5:30
Bath 6pm
Out of bath 6.30pm, warm drink, teeth, into bed, stories, chat, sleep.

All times approximate to allow for sibling arguments, maternal dinner-timing-crapness, bed bouncing, lost pyjamas and drinks, indecision about stories etc etc etc.

BsshBossh · 13/09/2012 20:43

Dinner at 5, bed at 7. But she has 1 swimming and 1 dance classe after school too so dinner time on those 2 days vary but bedtime still at 7. She's very active right until bedtime then as soon as I say night night she crashes until 7 the next mornng.

mogandme · 13/09/2012 20:45

Dinner at 5.30, bath at 6.30, then straight to bed for stories 6.50, bedtime 7pm

RillaBlythe · 13/09/2012 20:49

She's only been full-time for 2 days but I would imagine it goes a bit like this
Home at 3.15
Bit of TV & snack.
3.45 out to the park/playing.
6.00 supper
6.30 bath & stories
7.30 lights out

Tonight in our house it was:

Home at 3:15
Meltdown/fighting with her sister til 4
Tea at 4:15
Half an hour of TV at 4:45 (to prevent hysterics)
Preparation for bed/stories etc at 5:15
Lights out at 5:45!

CuriosityKilledTheCrap · 13/09/2012 20:57

I am trying lo stick to a 7 pm bedtime as DD really needs her sleep. lm not doing any 'work' with her though.

StellaAndFries · 13/09/2012 20:58

DD3 is in reception, at the moment the routine is
3.30 home
3.45 read book, talk about the day, cuddle, then plays with her sisters,
5.30 tea
5.45-6.15 bath or wash and pj's
7.30 bedtime with lights out instantly.
She gets up at 6.30-7.00am and goes downstairs to watch tv with dd2.
Tonight she went to rainbows so was pj'd at her grandparents house and fell asleep in the car on the way home. She had swimming this afternoon which completely wore her out

fivegomadindorset · 13/09/2012 21:00

Get home 3.30, play, watch TV, tea at 5ish, they don't have a bath every night, book gets done at bed time which is 7 or will do when he gets one and then he gets another couple of stories, then i move in to DD bed and reading.

RillaBlythe · 13/09/2012 21:00

I'm so jealous of you all getting them into bed so timely! Both of my DC need me to stay with them to go to sleep, they are in separate rooms & the whole bedtime takes forever with DP working late.

letsblowthistacostand · 13/09/2012 21:01

DD2 completely shattered after 4 days of full time. Last 2 days I fed her at 4:30, bath and bed by 6:45, then we don't hear a sound until 6:30am. She's always been a big sleeper though.

Startailoforangeandgold · 13/09/2012 21:16

Please can I borrow a child that school makes tired.

My two are much older now, but neither of them ever understood this idea.

If sent to bed at 8pm I would get peace, if sent to bed any earlier I'd have frazzled wrecks that finally zonked out at 9.30pm

Even then they were perfectly pleasant in the morning, it's just their mother who wasn't.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 13/09/2012 21:25

startail some children just naturally need more sleep. Thankfully both of mine need around 12 hrs (I would have 12 hrs too if I could get away with it) they wake up naturally between 7-7.30 or sometimes I wake them at 7.30 as that's the latest we can really get up.

I feel for those who's children's sleep patterns do not match with their own!

fivegomadindorset · 13/09/2012 21:26

Startail my DD has never gone to bed before 8pm, her brother is a 7-7.30 boy.
