Do you get a termly written report?

Do you get a big year end report which is then forgotten about because of the holidays, or do you feel you get enough information from termly reports and parents evenings. We're looking to change this in our school, so any comments would be gratefully received.

We get a report at the end of this term and then another report at the end of the year.

Frankly, the quality of the reports is far more important than the quantity. The reports I receive for DS and DD are awful, they contain statements such as "DS can do x". There are no targets and it is impossible to know whether the thing that he can do is on target, behind or ahead. I find it very frustrating tbh!

Parents evenings are more useful because at least you can ask questions. They also show you in the DC's books and this is useful as well.

We are in France and get three end-of-term reports of equal "size" and one small interim report at the Autumn half-term.

TBH, I would like more information during the year as to how to support my child and less information at the end of the year as parents don't want to have to do remedial teaching during the summer holidays - if children aren't keeping up, this information ought to be passed on to parents ASAP.

At primary level we got half term grades, then a full report at xmas and summer.

We have parents evenings half-way through the first and second terms. Mostly verbal reports on progress, but w. an A4 sheet with your child's current levels (either EYFS or National curriculum). Then a more detailed report at the end of the year.

I like this system.

We get a parents evening in October where we get told how they are settling in to the new year.. then another in April to let us know how stuff is going and whether any big step up is needed for SATs etc... then a big end of year report which generally puts into words all that has been said at the previous meetings + general stuff about their effort and performance during the year.

I love this - keeps us involved through the formal meetings - only 10 min, but that's enough to find out any trouble spots to work on, and you don't get any big surprises at the end...

Autumn term - parents evening
spring term - parents evening
summer term - big report.

That's plenty. If There was a need to ask more raise a concern you can ask for appointment throughout the year at end of school day.

ps We also get 'standard' curriculum summaries at start of each term so we know topics to come.

I would love a curriculum summary at the start of each term.

WE have it like iseenodust. I was a bit disappointed that we didn't get to talk to the teacher when the report came as I really didn't know what it meant and how she actually is performing in a bigger scale.

She just started Y1 and we have the parent evening in October and will pepper the new teacher. She has been reassessed by the teacher and improved (if I understand DD correctly).

vodkaanddietirnbru · 11/09/2012 12:30

we get 2 parents nights to meet with the teacher but only 1 main school report at the end of the school year

numbum · 11/09/2012 12:52

Parents evenings November and April/May
Reports come home at Easter

I like it the way our school does it. Bringing home reports at the end of the school year seems pointless to me because there's no time to discuss them before moving on

We get reports twice yearly. One early on in the school year (just before Parents Evening) with levels/targets/one sentence comments etc.

Another parents evening at the end of the second term so we get to hear of progress/targets.

Then a big report at the end of the school year with full reviews of DC's progress & levels.

We get reports at Christmas and end of school year. They are written by each of subject teachers with an overview by their class tutor. This starts in Reception and goes right through. In addition we have two parents evenings. Originally just with class tutor but (from Yr 4) you can see any subject teachers as well.
